The beginners session on Saturday 19th is cancelled and will be held on Sunday 20th at 10.00am. The subsequent sessions will be on Monday 21st* at 6.00pm and Tuesday 22nd at 2.00pm.

 

 

We have now arranged to hold separate sessions for groups of new bowlers and it would be great if you came along to them.

During the weekend over 100 people came through our gates to be introduced to the wonderful sport of lawn bowls and we thank you for enjoying it so much.

'Covid-19' Outdoor Bowls Guidance

 

This Guidance covers the period from the start of the season until 16th May 2021. If the expected further easing of the lockdown from 17th May takes place this guidance will be amended as necessary.

 

Underlying Health Problems 
If you have any underlying health problems or you or a family member are showing any of the main symptoms of coronavirus which are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

 

You must for your safety and for the safety of you friends and their families stay at home, we will see you when you're better. 

 

As the Government suggests playing Bowls is a great way to exercise and to have some limited social interaction. As the lockdown restrictions are being eased Witney Town is carefully restarting Outdoor Bowls play using the guidelines below to ensure you and other members are as safe as possible.

 

Please read the following safety guidelines.

 

The main one being that you will NOT be allowed to play unless –

  • you book a roll-up in advance, by telephoning Simon Anstey on 07484 649737 between 10:00 and 19:00. OR
  • you are selected to play in a Club match

 

For roll-ups

 

The changing rooms will be open to allow access to lockers only.

 

Only the disabled toilet will be available, however, you are responsible for sanitising all surfaces, before and after use.

 

For Club matches

 

The changing rooms, disabled toilet and bar will be open; the kitchen will remain closed

 

Wherever possible avoid touching any surfaces in or around the Club House and Green.

 

No spectators are allowed for roll-ups or Club matches.

 

To keep the Bowls Club open, Bowlers must exhibit best social distancing practice; before arriving at, during and at the end of your visit to the Bowls Club. Please read carefully the rules to follow in the Health and Welfare section below.

 

A Greens Supervisor will be on duty throughout the roll-up sessions, you must adhere to their instructions at all times. Failure to do so will mean you will be asked to leave the club area and disciplinary action may follow.

 

Restricted access to the club will be controlled by the Greens Supervisor. Do not turn up earlier than 10 minutes before your booked session.

 

Rink Bookings

 

  • The Rink Bookings will be taken between 10:00 to 19:00 by telephoning Simon Anstey on 07484 649737.
  • Only 3 rinks per day will be available for bookings i.e. rinks 1, 3 and 5 or rinks 2, 4 and 6.
  • There will be a maximum of 6 players allowed on each rink.
  • Sessions will start at 10.30am to 12.30 and 1.00pm to 3.00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • When making a booking, please ensure you name everyone who will be playing in your group, otherwise other members may be added to your rink to ensure maximum access to play for all members.
  • There will be Competitive Bowling organised during the 2021 season – internal competitions and against other clubs. Please see the Competition and Subscription Summary Form (internal competitions) and Outdoor Fixtures List for details of inter club games.
  • Please be mindful of others and only book one rink per day.
  • There will be reserved slots on the rink booking sheet for people working in NHS/Care & essential services.  You need to contact Simon Anstey directly as notified above for these slots.
  • Limited stocks of general equipment/surface cleaners and hand sanitisers will be made available, however, members are encouraged to bring their own supply of hand sanitiser, wherever possible.
  • Bowls England advise against wearing face coverings when playing; bowlers may wear protective gloves if they wish on the Green, face coverings must be worn inside the Pavilion

 

For Your Health and Wellbeing

 

The following guidelines have been issued by the World Health Authority, following these will substantially reduce the likelihood that you will contract the virus or become a carrier.

  • Stay at home and self-isolate even if you only have minor symptoms such as; such as cough; headache; mild fever; loss of smell or taste. If you need to leave the house, wear a face mask and avoid contact with others.
  • If you have any of the above symptoms, and feel you cannot cope at home, use the NHS 111 helpline.
  • Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub to kill any viruses that may be on your hands.
  • Maintain a distance of at least 2 metres from other persons (social distancing) in case they, or you cough or sneeze spreading the virus through droplets.
  • Avoid crowding or crowded places where social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose; these are transfer points for the virus from your hands into the body.
  • Cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze, disposing of the tissue immediately, then clean your hands as above. 
  • Do not cause litter – please place all your rubbish in the bins provided

 

At the Bowls Club and on the Green

 

The above guidelines apply at all times when at the Bowls Club and on the Green, remember if you want to keep playing, strict adherence is essential, additionally and until further notice how we play the game and prepare the Greens will continue to change.

This means as a player you must:

  • If you can, carry with you an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
  • Arrive ready to play, do not attend the Club for any reason other than to use the Bowls Green, if you have a query or wish to cancel a booking, phone Simon Anstey as soon as possible.
  • If you have to wait before going on the green, ensure correct social distancing at all times. 

 

Code of Conduct for Playing Bowls – During Covid19 Pandemic

 

  • Follow any instructions and safety signs that are in place; they are there to ensure the best possible practice.
  • A limited number of white plastic chairs and tables will be provided, please sanitise chairs and tables before and after use, this is for yours and others safety.
  • 2 Mats and 2 Jacks (per rink) will be cleansed before and after each session by the Greens Supervisor and put in place; do not adjust the mats, the jack should only be set/adjusted using the sole of your shoe.
  • Pushers can be used, but restricted to only one named person at each end using them.
  • Do not share or touch any bowls, other equipment/paraphernalia belonging to other players i.e. pens/pencils/scorecards etc.
  • Only measure the bowls head as a last resort, taking care not to touch the jack or bowls with your hands.
  • Remove only your own bowls from the head.
  • Scoreboards will not be used for roll-up play.
  • If you wish to keep your scores, bring your own pens/pencils and paper/scorecards.
  • Do not shake hands or make physical contact before, during or after your game.
  • On the green, maintain good social distancing from your playing partner at all times
  • At the end of your game, do not swap scorecards.
  • After your game go straight home or away from the club area, practising good social distancing at all times. 

 

Remember to practice good Bowls Etiquette at all times.

 

The Green will be open for the first time this Outdoor Season on

Saturday 17 April 2021.

 

There will be two session of 3 Rinks available, 10:00 to 12:00 and 12:30:14:30.
